LOSTalypse from LA X

Apocalypse, contrary to popular miss-interpretation is not a horrible end of the world, but come from the Greek word Apokálypsis which means “lifting of the veil” or “revelation.”  So in a shoutout to this deeper meaning of Apocalypse, I’m calling my weekly theorifications LOSTalypse, in which I theorize one week and debunk myself the next.  If anything this will help me with my ego problem.

Read on, but be wary, spoilers for those who haven’t watched LA X.

of cabins, ash rings and smoke monsters

Here’s my wild-eyed cry to the wilderness.  Like the quick circle Bram used in LA X, the ash ring around Jacob’s cabin was not a ring of containment, but a ring of protection.  It protected Jacob from the roaring about like a lion smoke monster, and until the ring was broken (by Hurley running away?) it was a safe harbor for Jacob.  Once it was broken, he hightailed it back to the four-toed foot, and set up shop there, leaving behind a tapestry fragment so his people (Illana et al) could find him later.

Evidence for: Smokie isn’t constrained, he roams freely and destroy, scan or seek to deceive his targets.  When he found someone to manipulate (John, Ben) he kept them alive, when he found that they weren’t amenable to coercion (Eko) off with their heads.

Problems: Christian and Claire in the cabin in Cabin Fever.  The ring hadn’t been destroyed, so is Christian a good doppelganger or a bad doppelganger?  I think I’ll have to be patient to see if Christian was playing for Smokie the whole time (valid theory) or maybe played both sides of the field.

dark water, baptism and rebirth

LamaLamaNinja (my name for the cheery faced Japanese gentleman that was the head of the Temple faction of the others) (Lostpedia is calling him Dogen, but what do they know?!) (quite a big, apparently) was troubled that the water in the spring wasn’t clear.  He didn’t know at the time that Jacob had been dead for a few hours. I think that cloudiness was Jacob’s essence, waiting for Sayid’s body to infiltrate/absorb his essence.  Perhaps that’s who ‘Jacob’ is, the sandy-haired fellow we see weaving and fishing, an incarnation/avatar of the ‘good’ presence of the island, that believes in free-will and a final ending instead of the nihilistic Smokie.

So when the Temple Others (Templers? Templars?) take Sayid and baptize him in the spring they’re effecting that change.  I used baptize specifically because it has a wonderful meaning, again if we go back to the Greek, baptizo means “immersing”, but it’s a bit richer.  The analogy I’ve read in my bible studies harkens back to the difference between a cucumber and a pickle.  A cucumber is immersed in pickling fluid and emerges a pickle. It's changed it can’t go back to being a pickle.  So I think in someway, baptizing Sayid in the spring has fundamentally changed Sayid.

everything blown to smithereens must converge

The sideways-flash storyline is gonna take some patience, and I think that while the madcap H-bomb plot was a bit too neat and tidy, it has some interesting things going on.  The main thing is we have two groups separated in time again, 2004 landing in LA, and 2007/8 back on the island where there’s about to be a war.  My crackpot theory is that the 04ers will be back on the Island to do battle with/against the 08ers (see numbers, it all ties together).

Maybe even a fixed up and walking Locke, which means the timelines have to converge.

“But WAIT!” I hear you proclaim, “the 04 Island is underwater! it’s been destroyed!” Yes that is a problem, but Eloise Hawking also stated that the Island isn’t limited by time or space.  So while the Island can move about, certainly the 08 island can move back in time or space to interact with the 04 timeline.  Or I’m dead wrong.  Which I often am.

SO there you go, theory-o-fied by your humble LOST_BOSS.  Yell at me in the comments or in Twitter. I double dog dare ya!

Update:

superpowersfragilisticexpealidocious

Hurley’s superpower is intact, talking back and forth with the dead.  The lesser but still awesome superpower of Miles is still working, though “It worked” is left open for interpretation, hence, again Hurley trumps Miles in the superpowers contest.

Yet to be seen: Desmond’s superpower (originally dissed by Hurley as “kinda sucks” as far as superpowers go) is he still in limbo? was he timeflashing to sit next to Jack on the Oceanic flight with the impeccable safety record (but kinda marred cargo record)? or just a glitch in the matrix?  I’m still rooting for Hurley for best superpower.
