The LOSTBlog.com Interview: 16 Questions We Asked Jennifer Ozawa of The Transmission

As promised and following on from yesterday's interview, today we are putting our 16 questions to his Jennifer Ozawa who along with his husband Ryan, runs the hugely popular blog and podcast, The Transmission and just like her husband, she has a great Lost elevator pitch and plenty of Post-Lost plans. You can follow Jennifer on Twitter here.

Q: How long have you been watching Lost?

A: From the beginning.  I really wasn't interested in the show before it aired.  I'd been burned so many times by tv shows.  I wasn't about to get into another show only to have it cancelled.  The pilot blew me away.  I was still very afraid to commit to the show, though.

Q: How did Lost get its polar bear claws into you? What about it got you hooked?

A: The scene in the travel agency in "Walkabout" hooked me for good.  I'd never seen anything like that before.

Q: Favorite character?

A: Mr. Eko.  I took his passing very hard.

Q: Least favorite character?

A: Many of them have rubbed me the wrong way at one time or another.  Kate is the character who most consistently annoys me, though.

Q: Favorite episode or season?

A: My favorite episode is "The Other 48 Days" from season 2.  I think season 4 is still my favorite season.

Q: Least favorite episode or season?

A: We joke that "Fire and Water" from season 2 made us quit podcasting, and it's sort of partially true.  I think we nearly gave up on the show after that episode.  Season 2 is both a high point and a low point for the show. It had such good writing and lots of suspense, but it just dragged on so long compared to, say, last season.

Q: Are you Team Jack or Team Locke?

A: That's such a hard question to answer.  Jack became a different person last season.  My own personal crackpot theory right now is that Locke has not really been Locke for some time now.  I can't really get behind Locke because I don't know who he is. Jack is a putz, but at least with Jack, you know what you're getting.  I have to, hesitantly, say team Jack.

Q: If you had to be one of the following, which would it be and why: an 815 survivor, an Other or a member of the Dharma Initiative?

A: An Other.  They have all those cool hideouts and they can speak Latin and can fight anybody and win.

Q: Which character’s demise were you most upset to see happening?

A: Mr. Eko.  His story was so compelling and he was such a great character. There was so much of his story left to tell.  It was just a shame.

Q: Tell us a bit about your blog/podcast.

A: We started podcasting in season 2.  Ryan was doing his own podcast back then and I had a segment and mostly, we'd talk about Lost and we got so much feedback that we decided to just start a show about Lost.  I would like to start a general pop-culture show when "Lost" is over.  We're planning it out now.

Q: What are you favorite online Lost communities, blogs, podcasts, etc.?

A: Jay and Jack are good friends of ours.  I love their podcast.  I like the Lost Community podcast.  Lately, though, I've been trying to avoid other podcasts out of fear of subconsciously copying them or stealing their ideas.

Q: Tell us something interesting/scary/amusing/downright weird about how your time in the Lost fan-verse has changed your life.

A: I've met so many amazing people through the show.  The fact that people listen to us and like us enough to write in is the biggest honor I can imagine.  People came up to us at Comic Con and took pictures with us. I never imagined in my whole life that that would happen.

Q: You’re in an elevator with someone who has never seen as much as a second of Lost. You got on in the lobby and you’re both headed to the fifteenth floor. How do you convince them to buy and watch all the DVDs before the elevator gets there?

A: I'm not really a Lost evangelist.  I think either you're interested enough to watch or you're not.  I think "Lost" is something you have to discover in your own time when you're ready to spend the time  on it.  If my life depended on it, though, I'd say the cast is full of gorgeous people and it's shot in the place I live, which happens to be the most beautiful place on earth, and there's never been a show like it ever, and it's the only show that's made me laugh and cry and made me mad and confused me all at the same time.

Q: Has watching Lost sparked any creative inspiration in your life, i.e. writing, media, art, etc.?

A: It's gotten me reading a lot more.

Q: How do you plan on combatting PLDS (Post Lost Distress Syndrome) or do you think we’re all destined to end up continuously re-watching our Lost: The Complete Series Ultimate Box Set for the rest of our lives?

A: I'm a movie buff.  I've always loved movies.  We have over 300 movies in our Netflix queue.  I'm going to tackle those and maybe some other TV shows. I'll still rewatch the show from time to time, though.

Q: What do you think will be Lost’s legacy?

A: It's already changed TV.  It'll be the show that made TV even better than movies.
