My name is Catherine and I live in Cork, Ireland (where it's currently 5.21am - now that's dedication for you!). I was living in Holland when I first started watching Lost and I quickly realized that I had far more reasons to watch it other that it being one of only a few non-Dutch programs on TV! While I only dip an occasional toe into the bustling online fan-verse (and usually to look up the significance of that thing that I know I should know about but have forgotten) I do appreciate the unprecedented situation Lost has given rise to. It's not just a TV show and it hasn't been in a long, long time.
I normally watch Lost on Irish TV which generally speaking is after the US but before the UK. I know there are ways around waiting but I don't really mind. Watching late means I can go straight to The Lost Diary and Doc Jensen on EW.com and find posts about the episode already waiting for me! I also love Lost Untangled and Jay and Jack, which I discovered via my old roommate and great friend, Andrea. I use Lostpedia when I just can't remember why I'm supposed to know that...
As I will be mainly focusing on interviews here, specifically our LostBlog.com Interview: The 16 Questions We Ask Everyone, I'm going to answer a few of them myself right now.
Q: How long have you been watching Lost? If you've been watching from the pilot, do you remember your initial thoughts?
A: I've been with it from the start. (Traveling has got in the way sometimes but I always manage to catch up in minimal time!) Honestly I think I tuned into the pilot because I saw in the promos that it was about a plane crash, and I'm a Seconds From Disaster/Air Crash Investigation/Black Box freak. (With a fear of flying, I may add. No wonder!) Clearly, by the end of it, I knew we were in for something else entirely. Also it didn't hurt that Matthew Fox is kinda pretty.
Q: Favorite character?
A: I've a different favorite character for every day of the week. Charlie, Desmond, Hurley, Ben, Jack... If I HAD to choose I'd probably say Jack although the Desmond/Penny thing gets me every time.
Q: Least favorite character?
A: I fear a deluge of hate mail, but I'm just going to say it: Mr. Eko. I never warmed to him at all and whenever I realized that it was going to be an Eko-centric episode I just groaned inside. Go on. Send it to me.
(Paulo and Nicki don't even count as characters, really. Hating them is just a given.)
Q: Favorite episode and/or season?
A: My favorite episodes are the ones that begin with total and utter game changers that make you think you've put on the wrong channel by mistake, e.g. Desmond in the hatch at the beginning of Man of Science, Man of Faith. I can still remember the utter confusion I experienced in the first few moments of that episode and then the shock when I realized we were in the hatch. As for season I'm not sure. Think I will have a mammoth re-watch once Season 6 comes out on DVD and decide then.
Q: You're in an elevator with someone whose never seen Lost. How do you convince them to watch it?
A: I really don't understand why someone wouldn't watch it. Well, I do understand people who dropped out in Season 3, or who missed a few episodes or a season and then got confused (or 'lost in lost' as my friend likes to say; it stopped being funny about a year ago) but as for people who actively dislike it - what is wrong with you? If you want great television, an outstanding ensemble cast, a TV show with the production value of a movie and enough questions, theories and mysteries to keep you and your friends talking for years, watch Lost.
You can follow me on Twitter @cathryanhoward but be warned, I watch Lost but I don't tweet it. However if you're into writers, coffee and people tweeting the phrase, 'I really need to get off Twitter and do some actual work...' then come on over!
