ABC/Disney on Hulu

ABC just joined Hulu, which is potentially nice from a Lost perspective because it’s a more pleasant place to watch something than ABC.com, in my opinion. It takes less time to load and it’s hard to get too annoyed about the commercials when most of them are for volunteer and philanthropic organizations. But in all likelyhood ABC.com will get first dibs on running the new episodes, meaning they may not be up on Hulu in a timely enough way to make that an attractive option for serious fans. Episodes of House take seven or eight days to get posted. Somewhat more compelling is the potential for their Lost archives.

But the real promise, if you’ll indulge me, has nothing to do with Lost. Hulu archives a lot of older content that’s hard to find anywhere else.  Between ABC and Disney there’s a lot they could archive if they were of a mind to. Disney has historically closely safeguarded their animation in particular. One I’d love to see is Disneyland and the Wonderful World of Disney. But there’s also old SF shows like The Outer Limits, Journey to the Bottom of the Sea; sitcoms like That Girl, Room 222, Taxi, Happy Days; there’s the Adam West Batman (that’s a long shot); Moonlighting, McGyver, The Wonder Years, My So-Called Life, Alias, Spin City, DHARMA and Gregg. Not to mention Disney Channel shows. Dumbo’s Big Top Circus anyone?
