LOST 5.13 “Some Like it Hoth” pregame

This week’s LOST Pregame examines the Miles-centric episode 5.13, “Some Like it Hoth.” Here’s what we know:

“Some Like it Hoth”

Written by Melinda Hsu Taylor & Greggory Nations
Directed by Jack Bender
Suspicions about a possible breach intensify after Ben is taken from the infirmary, and a reluctant Miles is forced to work with Hurley when he’s asked to deliver an important package to a top Dharma official.

Early hints and teasers have indicated that this will be the most lighthearted episode of Season 5, examining the motivations of one Miles Straume. So this is what we’ll probably learn:

  • Why was Miles was on the Freighter, as part of the team sent by Widmore to the island?

  • Why did he try to blackmail Ben for the curiously precise amount of $3.2 million?

  • Has Miles been on the island before, despite his claims to the contrary? And if so…

  • Is Miles the son of Pierre Chang, as most fans believe? (Bet you a buck the “top Dharma official” in the logline is Chang.)

The previews for the episode showed off some major “buddy cop movie”-style bonding between Miles and Hurley over the ability to talk to dead people, which both of them seem to have. And it looks like we’re returning to the 1977 action this week, with little-to-nothing shown from the Adventures of John & Ben (and their wacky sidekick Sun) in 2007.

Then there’s the guest cast list, which always offers nuggets of intrigue to be gleaned from: it includes Francois Chau (Pierre Chang), Marsha Thomason (dead-since-Season 4 Naomi Dorrit), Doug Hutchison (Horace Goodspeed), Patrick Fischler (Phil), Jon Gries (Roger Linus), Eric Lange (Radzinsky), and an actor portraying “young Miles.” Hm. Let the flashbacks begin?

ABC has not yet released any preview videos for “Some Like it Hoth,” but maybe that will change as Wednesday unfolds, so check back later in the day. In the meantime, Doc Jensen offers his pre-episode thoughts here.
