The LostBlog Interview: 16 Questions We Asked Jess Orso, AKA Badmombot

I knew I was in for a little interview treat when Jess Orso, AKA Badmombot returned her interview with 'You Had Me At Questionnaire' in the subject line and I wasn't disappointed. Distracted by Ana Lucia's dentures, on Team Edward (!) and a sucker for a cool jumpsuit, Jess writes the Badmombot blog and has been known to watch 7 episodes of Lost in a single day. If this doesn't brighten up your Lost-less morning, I don't know what will.

Read more of this awesome interview below:

Q: How long have you been watching Lost?

A: The summer after Season 3 I started watching. I didn’t even know someone who was watching. I came across an episode that was in repeating on SciFi (or SyFy), and thought I’d watch for a bit. It was 'Abandoned' and I had no idea what was going on. The first season was on Netfilx so I rented. My hubbs and I watched every episode, some times two, three, four, seven a day. By the time Season 4 started, we were ready. As far as initial reactions go, I’m pretty sure it was an awesome-shocked-drool-running-out-of-my-mouth kinda thing.

Q: How did Lost get its polar bear claws into you? What about it got you hooked?

A: I was initially interested in how they’d get off the island, but then I was all WHAT THE POLAR BEAR? and WAS THAT A FREAKING DINOSAUR OR WHAT? and then when I got to the Others and I was all “What’s up with that creepy guy? That cute blonde is a liar and I hate her (or do I?). Wait, they’re all liars? Cindy, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Once the claw was in, it was all about the rewatch. Seeing things in episodes after the third and four time is what really amazes me.

Q: Favorite character?

A: If I had to pick on the basis of who do I love cause she’s pretty and smart, and I’d like to trade places with her, ‘cause she’s all around awesome and has a cute boyfriend then I’d have to say Juliet. Even in death (?) she’s awesome.

Q: Least favorite character?

A: Has to be a tie between Michael and his ear splitting (dude, I’m sitting right here) WAAAAAAAALTs or Ana Lucia and her dentures.

Q: Favorite episode or season?

A: Any episodes where they throw in the super geeky time travel stuff. I heart them.

Q: Least favorite episode or season?

A: Lets just say I think that Bai Ling should stick with comedy.

Q: Are you Team Jack or Team Locke?

A: I can’t really be Team Locke cause he’s dead right? That’s not exactly a winning attitude. And Team Jack is a little two focused on I’M GONNA GET EVERYONE OFF THE ISLAND! no wait WE HAVE TO GO BACK! Dude, take a step back already. Oh, I’m supposed to delete the questions I don’t want to answer.... Team Edward?

Q: If you had to be one of the following, which would it be and why: an 815 survivor, an Other or a member of the Dharma Initiative?

A: I would say Other, but I feel like there’s a whole lot of blind leading the blind going on there, and if I’m gonna be blind then I’d rather being wearing a cool jumpsuit, cause I’ve always been a sucker for uniforms. I’m not enormously thrilled about meeting my end a la gass-ification, so 815 survivor would be rad so long as I don’t have to eat grubs.

Q: Which character’s demise were you most upset to see happening?

A: Even in the rewatches I still cry when Charlie dies. I’m getting choked up just thinking about it.

Q: Tell us a bit about your blog.

A: Right now it’s all a bunch of randomness that started with my uncontrollable urge to organize and write down my thoughts. I’ve fallen victim to a couple of spoilers and they’ve ruined the watching experience. I’m trying to stay off the blogs for the most part during the hiatus, because I don’t want any one else’s ideas to influence my own. I really want to do an AS I WATCH post that just has my random typing reactions while I watch. Like:

DID YOU SEE THAT??

DR. CHAN IS SEXTUPLETS???

I TOLD YOU THE HOT POCKET SLEEVE WAS IMPORTANT, haters.

Q: What are you favorite online Lost communities, blogs, podcasts, etc.?

A: I heart Jay and Jack, Jacob’s Cabin, Long live Locke, Vozzek, and the Transmission. I catch others, but these are my can’t-live-on-a-deserted-island-without picks.

Q: Tell us something interesting/scary/amusing/downright weird about how your time in the Lost fan-verse has changed your life.

A: I had my baby #3 by c-section on a Monday, which meant I wouldn’t get out of the hospital until Thursday. As soon as our evening nurse came on to her shift at 5 I pulled her aside and said:

“You’re going to think I’m totally bonkers. But at 7 o’clock I have a television show that I have to watch, and since I don’t have the magic of TiVo here in the hospital, I’m going to want to try and pay extra close attention to the live airing. I’m going to beed need (I kinda liked trying to figure out what 'beed' meant, though it was a new cool word! -Jon) you to run any tests, take any sample, give me any drugs, do whatever it is you have to do to me BEFORE 7 or AFTER 8. MMMMMKAY?”

And yes, she looked at me like I was the crazy person that I am.

And the time I called the Transmission and they played me on their podcast. I totally GEEKED OUT. Like I was famous. Cause I kinda was.

Q: You’re in an elevator with someone who has never seen as much as a second of Lost. You got on in the lobby and you’re both headed to the fifteeth floor. How do you convince them to buy and watch all the DVDs before the elevator gets there?

A: “Oh, my gosh, are you just naturally skinny or do you work out all the time? I mean seriously you are like I-hate-you adorable. You know what? You totally remind me of (insert LOST character here) from that show Lost. YOU’VE NEVER SEEN IT? WOW, you are really missing out. No, you can’t just go watch one of the new episode. Didn’t I hear that you just had a birthday? YAY! Happy Birthday to YOU!!! You should take your birthday money and go buy Season 1. Just watch the pilot. If you hate it I’ll buy it from you. FOR REAL. Oh, you’re getting off here? Yeah, they have it at Wal-Mart! I’ll pick it up for you and you can pay me back later. See you!! Oh I LOVE THOSE SHOES!!!

(Season 1 is the only necessary sell, cause it’s not like they’d be able to stop there!)

Q: Has watching Lost sparked any creative inspiration in your life, i.e. writing, media, art, etc.?

A: Writing for sure, hence the blog, and the desire to own a part of the legend. But that’s not really creative, so much as crazy. If I had a free weekend in a hotel with no distraction (except the occasional massage and or Mani/Pedi) I would totally draw a map of the island.

Q: How do you plan on combatting PLDS (Post Lost Distress Syndrome) or do you think we’re all destined to end up continously re-watching our Lost: The Complete Series Ultimate Box Set for the rest of our lives?

A: Denial. Denial. Tears. Denial. And then rewatch. Yes, for the rest of my life.

Q: What do you think will be Lost’s legacy?

A: I think it will all wrap up in a tiny package of geek perfectness. It has the possibility for spin-offs, but I’m thinking the package idea seems to be more appealing to the PTB.
