I’ve been a LOST fan since September 22nd, 2004. To be honest, I didn't catch the pilot when it first aired. I actually saw it when they replayed it the following Sunday night, and I've been inspired, or compulsive about it, ever since.About the time LOST came out, I was burned out with the concept of ‘online communities’, and had dipped my toes into blogging. I posted theories and analysis and "oh wows!" at my own blog, interacted with a few other fans, but never really went – Deep.
That changed this past spring when I started using Twitter to talk about LOST, and discovered this whole new wonderful LOST fan-verse. I’d listened to a podcast now and then, and hit a few sites, but hadn’t realized how very large the fan sites had become.
Then around the time of the finale, and feeling the shaky feeling an addict feels when he’s about to take his last hit (I imagine, I’ve never done a hit of anything! promise!), I decided the way to hold off the withdrawals of a long hiatus was to start a Twitter-based re-watch with some of the tweeps I’d met on Twitter. This is the final week of that re-watch that I called Watching From The Beginning (#WFTB) and I’d been wondering what to do after it was over.
The other thing that’s kinda taken a life of its own is the LOST Themed Disney Attraction petition. Started as a little funny thought, and with a prompt from #1 LOST fan Jeff “Doc” Jensen of Entertainment Weekly, I started a petition. Then suddenly it got a lot of press, some awesomely good, some distractingly bad. But it was a fun thought, and fun to press it on Twitter, and blogs. Oh! Did I mention, two really important people tweeted about it? I was interviewed three times, by email, phone and in person. It was marvelous fun.When the owner of this site offered me the opportunity to run LOSTblog.com, I knew I wanted to go in a slightly different direction. I wanted everyone to have the same opportunity that I’ve had. To have a day where they can bask in their fandom, feel special, tell other people why they love this show. Most of all I wanted to give them a place to discover people like them. Normal people that love a show so much they want to talk about it. LOSTies talking with other LOSTies about LOST? There's nothing better than that.
So when I pitched the idea to "Jacob", and he agreed with me, I picked some people from my twitter stream to help me, with this goal in mind:

A site where we create content for FANS.
A site where we’re not ashamed to talk about FANS.
Amazingly, everyone I talked to about joining in with this endeavor were enormously excited about the concept and the opportunity.
So that’s the story. Welcome to my third crazy idea.
