Within the next week and a half, my wife and I will be welcoming our second son into the world. We have a C-section scheduled for the 27th of January, so on or before that day, Desmond Liam Wade Johnson will be joining us. Just in time for the premiere!
If you have kids, you know that means I've had my hands full for the past nine months. There have been baby clothes to buy, wash, and organize; toys, cribs, swings, and high chairs that had to be cleaned and put together; and a beautiful pregnant wife whose belly needed lots of rubbing. Plus, we have our four year-old to prepare (he can't wait to be a big brother!) and all of the usual life things to take care of. In all that, we just couldn't find the time for a penultimate rewatch of our favorite show. Instead, what I've done is revisit as much as I can by way of Lostpedia, cementing in my mind everything that I'm looking forward to about the new season. I'm telling you, I just can't wait to see the smoke fly away and reveal that pissed-off giraffe underneath.
I've been thinking hard about what Season 6 will hold and avoiding spoilers as much as I can, but I've come up with a short list of a few predictions that I expect to see and (maybe) enjoy in the premiere episode:
- Kate will make use of her pouty face and continue to fawn over Jack. Or Sawyer. Or both.
- Jack will yell at someone and risk alienating them for a cause he can't even define.
- Hurley will be lovable, affable, and he'll probably knock something over.
- Ben will reveal that he knows more than he lets on.
- Sawyer will do something heroic and shrug it off.
- Locke, Flocke, Bad-Locke, or whoever he is will do something that nobody, not even Ben, can explain.
Now, with those predictions out of the way, I'm going to follow the lead of my fellow bloggers and answer some interview questions. That way, we can all pretend to know everything there is to know about me.
Q: How long have you been watching Lost? If you've been watching from the pilot, do you remember your initial thoughts?
A: I first watched the pilot in the summer of 2005, before the second season started. About halfway through the episode, I paused it, took a deep breath, and said aloud to no one in particular, "This is how suspenseful television is done." From the beginning, I admired the way that everyone involved worked to keep me on the edge of my couch and there was no dearth of compelling questions. By the time the survivors made it to their first night on the Island and were watching trees being uprooted, I was fully addicted.
Q: Favorite character?
A: Desmond. We're naming our son after him. That should be a sufficient pledge of loyalty.
Q: Least favorite character?
A: I've had a dozen over the course of the series, but to be absolutely honest, I'm really getting tired of Kate. Over the past couple of seasons, she's come to annoy me, what with being so indecisive, pouty, and impulsive. I'm holding out hope, though, that she comes through big time this year.
Q: Favorite episode and/or season?
A: "The Constant" is and forever will be my favorite episode. It was a masterpiece on many levels and no matter what happens this year, I doubt they're going to displace that. If they do, though, I'm ready to admit it and eat my words.
When it comes to a favorite season, I find it hard to match Season 1. They're all good, but my hope is that when Darlton says Season 6 is a lot like the first, what they mean is that it brings back the energy, suspense, and wonder that we all had when we took those initial steps on the Island.
Q: Team Jack or Team Locke?
A: There's a Team Jack? Does he even have a playbook? You could have fooled me. I thought he was just playing connect-the-dots with Kate's freckles and using that as a map. Wait, on second thought, that just might work....
That's all for now. I'm looking forward to wearing out my keyboard in front of you guys and seeing what you all think. Also, come see me on Twitter (@13stages), where you can follow me and be the first to know when I pour another cup of coffee, say good morning to my wife, and have a baby!
