Hello, LOST fans! I hope that July, Month 2 Since the Finale, is treating you well so far. Speaking of treats, we had one last weekend when 2010 Emmy nominated LOST editor Mark Goldman returned to Twitter after taking a brief hiatus, and answered a few great questions from fans.

mjgoldman And one question. Was that MiB or Jacob in the Cabin in 3x20? Thats the only thing i just cant bend my mind around :(

mjgoldman - GREAT question; the kind I would ask the Prods in the cutting room. RT @

mjgoldman You'll have to force them to talk. It's the only way. [Psst - I'm already pretty sure, so I'm cool with waiting!]

mjgoldman I heard that filming on 35mm costs about 70$ a minute. I guess you have about 60 minutes per episde which gets cut down to 42.

mjgoldman So a BTS question. How much material do you get to work on? Scenes are shot several times. About how often? 10 times each?
3:12 PM Jul 3rd
lostqu4d - @
mjgoldman Are these numbers somewhere near the truth? :) That would already be quite expensive.

lostqu4d I've no idea what a minute of film costs; luckily, I don't have to worry about that part of the process (I'd be a lousy prod) BUT-

lostqu4d For one episode, we usually got about 20-25 HOURS of film (not including takes shot but not sent to editing). Almost every scene~

lostqu4d is shot from several angles. A simple sc maybe has 2 or 3; a huge scene maybe 20-25; a GIANT scene maybe 50.

lostqu4d A sc with lots of actors or lots of action will need lots of set-ups. I think the Jack-Locke fight had about 30.

lostqu4d Then of course, each set-up may have only 1 take, or it may have 4 or 5. So some sc. will have 5 min. of dailies; others - 3 hrs.

lostqu4d The scene in the sub probably had 1 hr for the 1 pt (arguing over dismantling the bomb) then 90 min of explosion and aftermath.

lostqu4d After going through all the footage, & cutting all the scenes, my first version of the show is (hopefully) 5-10 minutes long. Then

lostqu4d we start cutting & trimming to make it sing. That's the best part!

mjgoldman Wow... really. That are huge numbers. Up to 25 hours. And there have been 121 episodes and all the mobisodes. What a load :o

mjgoldman Did you also work on "the man in charge" epilogue? :) There were many rumors about its running time. 20 mins here. 10 mins there.

mjgoldman Is cutting such stuff more fun? I guess there are less restrictions.

lostqu4d Robert Florio cut the awesome mobisodes, and ABC produced the awesome recapping shows. We just stuck with the actual awesome eps.

mjgoldman the last episode had many scenes that ended up deleted?

mjgoldman - No, I think just one or two. That's why it grew to 2.5 hrs!! RT @

mjgoldman Hi Mark! I've always wanted to ask you what it was like to edit Juliet's death scene in the S5 finale. Excruciating, challenging?
12:31 AM Jul 4th in reply to mjgoldman

jopinionated I'd need 140 pages to answer that, but yes - very challenging & very depressing. I was angry about Juliet dying.

jopinionated Both Liz & Josh brilliant; when I first saw him breaking down (in his final, astonishing, take), I almost burst into tears.

mjgoldman- It's way too late, but how remarkable is it that I'm chatting with Germany, Brazil, and...uh... San Diego.....all at the same time.
1:01 AM Jul 4thHey, San Diego – squee, that was me! What a fantastic editor, and what a generous tweeter. Thanks so much to Mark Goldman and to the fans who tweeted to him for these great insights into behind-the-scenes at LOST!
