How #LOST Should Have Ended
Jun 28 2010 11:33 AM ET
Exclusive First Look: How 'Lost' should have ended
It’s been a month since the Lost finale aired and you know what that means: Make way for the parodies! The silly kids over at How It Should Have Ended — the Starz Digital animated web series that proposes alternative conclusions to popular movies and TV shows — have set their sights on the polarizing Lost swan song. And the results are undeniably ROTFLMFAO
You can watch the hilarious video here
WRLB Podcast Tonight!

All you have to do is pick up your phone and dial (724) 444-7444 and enter the caller ID: 76142
Ryan and I will do a short synopsis of the book and then we'll start with a discussion of themes and work our way into the more detailed parallels.
Questions for you to be thinking about...
How does Sawyer's character work into the bunnies? Which bunny best reflects Sawyer?
How does the Episode Deus Ex Machina parallel the chapter Dea Ex Machina?
Why of all the characters did the writers assign ownership of this book to Boone? How does Boone fit in with the bunnies?
We will be taking comments and emails before during and after the podcast! Call in to 205-202-1516 and leave a message regarding your comments and theories on the book, OR you can always email us at bookclub@lostblog.com
Next week I'll do a follow up podcast where I play/read/answer these comments!

Amy’s LOST Rewatch Recap: Episode 1.05 – “White Rabbit”

NAMES OF OUR LOSTIES WE KNOW SO FAR: Jack, Kate, Charlie, Sayid, Boone, Shannon, Walt, Vincent, Sawyer, Sun, Claire, John Locke, Rose, Bernard, and Michael.
We still don't know: Jin's name or anyone's last name except for Locke.
_______________________________________________________________________
Begin Episode 1.05
_______________________________________________________________________

A blond boy up against a chain link fence is getting pummeled (with steady, loud, left-handed blows to the gut) by Jerky's buddy. [The school bus behind the fence tells us this little party is taking place on or near school property.] The boy on the ground and Blondie trade looks. Blondie silently suffers (mouthing a few words) and pleads for help. Jerky looks down at the boy.
- Jerky: It's your choice, man. Walk away now, and you won't get your ass kicked.
The boy on the ground watches the blond kid suffer a few more punches [IN FACT, it totally looks like he FEELS that FIRST punch. WATCH his body and the expression on his face]. He gets mad. He whips to his feet and heads for Blondie. Jerky grabs his shoulder and spins him around.
- Jerky: Should've stayed down, Jack!
Amy’s LOST Rewatch Recap: Episode 1.05 – “White Rabbit”

Previously on LOST: Boars invaded the beach, Claire had a funeral, Jack sat with Rose, Kate dropped the antenna, Sayid pitched a minor fit, and Locke (first name JOHN), led his first hunt, bagged his first kill and had a little one-on-one time with Smokey. John gets bumped off of the walkabout bus because —- [...]

Staying Lost After Lost - White Rabbit

This episode was so much different this time even though I just recently watched it during Season 6. While I mostly still agree with what I stated in that recap, I can really elaborate now that the series is over. Instead of watching the episode and taking it as a piece of the puzzle, I was able to see it this time as a mirror into the finale episode. There are just a few things I want to take up in this recap that are very important to me.
This was a Jack episode. It revealed a lot about him and really mirror imaged him in season 6. In his flashback we see him do two things. The first half of that flashback we see him trying to fix the wrong thing again (on and off island). Then his father gives him the "you don't have what it takes" speech. This speech impacts his island experience. He is looked to as a leader, but is very reluctant to take it. He is broken because of this speech. Only until Hurley says "he has what it takes" in Lighthouse does he start fix himself and see that he can actually do what he is meant to do.
The second half of the flashback he is starting to clean up the mess he made with his father and then later deal with his death. This mirrors Jack's entire flash sideways in my opinion. Maybe Jack was troubled by the fact that he never clean up the mess and that he never really got to bury his father properly. Maybe this is why his sideways was so focused on his father's death and resolving the daddy issues with David. I have always thought that the sideways world was not only a place made to find each other, but it is also a place for them to feel nice and cozy before they finally transition. More on that later...
On island Jack is working through his "not having what it takes" by running around the jungle chasing his dead father. And I have a pretty crazy idea about Christian. Before I say this crazy idea I have, I need to say that this: since watching this episode, I have decided that I feel that the MIB/Smoke Monster never was a person. It never was Jacob's brother, but Jacob created it. It is what it is...a monster. This monster has the ability to scan memories. It can impersonate dead people. It wants to destroy the island. That is all we know about it. Jacob's brother was not given a name because it isn't the Monster. Maybe Damon and Carlton did this as a giant clue into that.
Now, my crazy theory about Christian/Smoke Monster. Dead parents. Many of the characters have dead parents. I think the Monster uses the impersonations of dead parents to manipulate people on the island to try to get them to do what he wants them to do. We have seen dead parents come about since Across the Sea. I also believe that the Monster was Richard's Isabella. It was also Ben's mother. And it is also Jack's father in this episode. I have an idea about what the Monster might be doing here and I don't believe the Monster when it says it was helping Jack find water in The Last Recruit. I think the Monster is setting Jack up to lead and fail. Making his remember his father, get inspired by Locke to lead and then fail. The Monster may know that Jack is on the path to becoming the next protector and doesn't want that. Maybe the Monster wants him to fail as a leader and never do it again.
What was Locke's deal? He knew where to go to find Jack and what to say to Jack to make him find the water and find a little bit of strength to lead the other survivors. I think that Locke is being influenced by the Monster and being used to manipulate Jack into leadership. Locke is feeling special and all knowing. I don't know if he has actually met with the Monster while his is impersonating someone (as Jacob's brother) or if he has influence on Locke's mental state. But Locke seems like he knows something here. And as far as Locke's "seeing into the eye of the island", I think that it is something the Monster showed him to manipulate him. I don't think that he saw the heart of the island.
The final thing I need to talk about is Charlie's tattoo. When he is talking to Claire we get a good look at what it says: "Living is easy with eyes closed" This is a lyric to The Beatles song Strawberry Fields Forever. The lyrics to this song, to me, explain the sideways world. A big fat giant clue into how the story would end that we couldn't ever really see until now. No matter how many Dharma stations were found or how many new Others we met, this story was always going to be about these characters and their journey into death. I also find it very interesting that Charlie has this tattoo and he is the first one to open his eyes up in sideways land.
As I said a little earlier, I always thought that the sideways world was a nice, cozy place for our Losties to wait and find each other. Even though they all seem to be in a similar situation as they were pre-815, all of them seem pretty comfortable. It is how they would want everything to be, in a perfect world, while they wait for their friends. "Living is easy with eyes closed." To me, this is such a beautiful idea.
This episode was the key to the end. I always knew it was epic, but the reflections into the finale were just stunning. Kate is taking care of Claire in both episodes, Jack touches the coffin almost exactly the way he does in the finale, and the way that Kate said "I'm sorry" to Jack in this episode was the exact same way she says it in the finale. (That one really gave me goosebumps.) I really think they wrote these episodes at the same time. It was really cool to go back and see this episode now that it is all over.

LOST MAIL BAG – Amy Answers FAN Questions
YAY! It's time for MAIL BAG! [Where Amy finally gets off her tail and does the best she can to answer your questions about LOST!]

THIS EDITION OF MAIL BAG focuses on lingering questions after "The End." The finale left a lot of LOST fans scratching their heads (and/or CRYING their eyes out like ME). The good news is with the finale over, all the puzzle pieces are FINALLY in the box. The better news is: if you are one of those fans determined to figure out what happened, you are in luck! Team Rewatch here at LOSTblog is all about going BAAAAACK to the beginning and re-examining the entire show in context. Be sure to check out all our recaps, podcasts and LIVE chats each week!
This is a special edition of MAIL BAG is dedicated to answering excellent QUESTIONS from groovy LOST fan, Diane. Her questions and my answers cover similar questions many of my lovely LOST readers have been posting over the past three weeks. I'll encourage all of you to read through them!
Diane wrote:
It's me again, Amy. I've re-read your recaps and some of the other articles you've written about your theories, and they are very interesting.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you are enjoying them!
Did you come up with this on your own?
I didn't start really digging into LOST until after the Season 3 finale (first flash forward), and even then, I spent very little time debating/discussion the show with other peeps on a regular basis. I'm not the only fan (by FAR) who made a strong case that nothing on LOST taking place in a physical world well before the finale. However, I've yet to find someone who syncs up 100% with what I'm doing, esp when we start getting into the Undershow -- I'll save that one for later! Unless I specifically note it, everything I post comes from my own head (disturbing, right?). All I can say is what I always say: I only follow the evidence.
Do most of the people on this site agree with your theory? Just asking.
Always feel free to ask questions! We love it! The simplest answer is: maybe. LOSTblog was developed and set up to facilitate rewatch and post-finale activities, all based on the idea that this is supposed to be FUN. What's so very cool about rewatch, and about LOSTblog in general, is that the guess work is over. Now is the time to TEST our theories against the show as a whole. Everyone on LOSTblog is very excited and really digging in, which I LOVE! If you've explored other writers on the site and LOSTblog peeps' discussions on our podcasts, then you know there's a wide spectrum of theories about the show represented here. Right now, we are all at the "maybe" stage. For the most part what I've heard is -- okay, so I can agree it's not physically real (since the finale made that pretty darn clear), so where does that leave us? Now is the time to ask more questions. The best way to do that is to start from scratch and work together. That's what makes the show so cool in the first place!
Hopefully, you've also noticed that at LOSTblog we work very hard to keep our discussions friendly, fun and interesting without putting anyone down or making anyone feel "wrong" or "stupid" about their ideas. LOSTblog is a hater-free zone *-- ALWAYS! So feel free to ask your questions -- they are NOT stupid!
Did that answer your question? All I'll say for now is that it's become a lot easier for other peeps on this site to "see" what I'm talking about. That is way cool in itself!
*FYI for all lovely LOST readers: Hater-free zone is exactly what it implies. Any and all opinions and constructive criticisms are welcomed here with open arms. O.K. Here are a few questions. Please forgive me if they seem stupid, but I'm still trying to get my non scientific mind around this.
There are NO stupid questions when it comes to LOST! And FYI: I'm an English Lit/Freshman Comp teacher! I'm right there with you!
Chapter 1 of Amy’s Handy-Dandy Viewing Guide for #LOST Rewatch

CHAPTER 1: The Basics and The Constructed World First off I must confess. I frickin’ LOVED the LOST series finale [“The End”]. I was so excited as each scene went by, I was actually too happy to absorb the very last scene where Jack and his peeps “leave” at the exact same moment Jack dies [...]

Staying Lost After Lost – Tabula Rasa

Kate's story was intriguing. You know she did something bad but you can also tell that she is a sweet and caring person. She doesn't seem "dangerous" on the island and the fact that she gets caught because she was saving Ray (again, with the fake arm? haha) shows that she isn't really some ruthless fugitive. I really liked how they presented the two sides, light and dark, within the characters. Really great storytelling. It was really cool to see this dark side of Kate. She was such a different person in the beginning than she was in the end. It seems like she really took what Jack said to her at the end of the episode to heart.
Jack: "Three days ago we all died. We should all be able to start over."
Tabula Rasa: Latin - blank slate.
Jacob to Richard in Ab Aeterno: ."...And when they get here, their past doesn't matter."
This idea of a fresh start to me is a "Lost Axiom" (phrase completely stolen from Three Dudes Talking). Once you crash on the island, the first thing you need to do is let go of your past. And most of them did. If you don't, you end up like Nikki and Paolo (obsessing over the diamonds, from their past, dead!)
Another thing about this comment by Jack is that it is very "Jacobian" (word completely stolen from @WhimsyandQuirk). I believe that this is where they were really setting up the two sides to be lead by Jack and Locke. In the scenes very closest to the end of this episode, you have Jack being very Jacob-like to Kate while they sit on the beach and then, you have Locke staring at Walt and Vincent very creepily while they play eerie music, very MIB like. Again, they knew what they were doing the whole time. This episode reflects Season 6 in a big way. All the way down to Jack and Hurley being a duo.
This episode sets the ground work for the entire series here. They establish the story's roots here: Sawyer and Jack's conflict begins in the fuselage, Jack's need to fix is manifested in the need to make sure the marshal gets better, just to name a couple. They were also clearly developing a special story for Walt. And I would give anything to find out what that was! He stopped the rain! That would have been an interesting story. I'm kind of sad he grew!
Like I said before this episode was one of my favorites of all time. But now that I watched it again with all of the pieces aligned I can see that it was a really very important episode for the foundation of the entire show. I am having fun with this re-watch already! Until next time, Namaste.
My Lost Moment - New LOST Fan Site
Hi,
My name is JB, I am a 28-year old french LOST fan.
I just launched a website called http://mylostmoment.net. Its purpose : let the fans tell their all-time favorite moment of the series. It can be a dialogue, an elegant shot, a jaw-dropping cliffhanger... To me, each Lost fan connected with the series for a very personal reason, which can be be summed up in one single scene. With this website, I'd love to link them all together. Hopefully, if the site worked, we will be able to rediscover the whole Lost journey, as told by all the fans across the globe.
People in Hungary, Turkey, France, Spain and USA have already submitted their "moment"…
How cool, let's all do this! And thanks to JB for setting up the site and forwarding the info to LOSTblog!
