CALLING ALL LOST FANS: DONATE NOW TO STOP BRAIN TUMORS, AND YOU COULD WIN ONE-OF-A-KIND LOST SWAG!

Logo for National Brain Tumor Society. One of our FAVORITE LOSTies, JOpinionated, is raising money to fight BRAIN TUMORS. Please SPREAD THE NEWS about this TERRIFIC opportunity to win FANTASTIC LOST Memorabilia!!

Quote from JOpinionated's blog:

Would you like to own a small piece of LOST history, and support an amazing cause in the process? Thanks to the inspiring generosity of Jorge Garcia, now you have the chance.

WHO and WHY

My very good friend Jackie has a stage 4 brain tumor, at 31 years old. Events like this provide a necessary, fresh perspective. Thus, I have decided to part ways with a majority of my personal LOST collection, as their value is far more important to this cause than to their shelf life in my house. So I am putting them all for grabs in exchange for donations to the National Brain Tumor Society.

In addition, Jorge Garcia and his girlfriend Beth were kind enough to donate an actual piece of the Oceanic 815 plane, just for this cause. I am overwhelmed by their generosity, and tremendously grateful for the extremely thoughtful donation.

HOW

  1. Make a donation either directly to Jackie's upcoming Brain Tumor Walk or the National Brain Tumor Society

More LOST Character Miis for Your Nintendo Wii

I've been having a great time working out with my Island friends (to see the Miis created last spring, click here) on my Nintendo Wii Fit, but I realized as I was jogging around the Wii Fit Island that there are a lot of characters missing from my sideways there.   Time to make some more.  Here they are, made to look the way I think they'd look in my sideways, all happy and getting fit on the island together.  If you'd like to add these characters to your Nintendo Wii Mii Plaza, so that they will show up in some of your Wii games, download the Check Mii Out Channel on the main Wii screen (it's free), then click on Posting Plaza.  Click on "Popular" at the bottom of the screen, then the magnifying glass at the bottom ("Search").  At the top of the "Set Conditions" screen, click on the arrows button on the top right (it says "Change" when you hover over it).  Then click the "Enter #" button and enter the number of the Mii you'd like to check out, and maybe add to your Mii collection.  Namaste!

LOST Likes - What Shows Are You Watching?

With the finale of LOST we're all trying to cope with the end of sensational television. As LOSTies we are known for our fine taste in the entertainment medium, including you all everybody. So we have decided to have a new feature on LOSTblog to help us identify and support those shows that have caught our collective discerning eye towards quality entertainment.

Quality television is something we're all looking for, and in this day and age we're not solely limited to what is currently broadcasting on network television or cable channels. Thanks to DVDs, Hulu, Netflix streams and other media outlets shows from the past are available for our current consumption. I know since the ending credits of LOST I've used these streams to consume some past shows that I didn't have the bandwidth to watch, or in some cases even knew the show existed. For instance:

The Wire - an HBO series that has garnered well-deserved accolades for its characters and look into the Baltimore crime scene. While not LOST-like as a genre, its quality is top notch, and its commitment to excellence certainly makes it a worthwhile journey to enjoy the five-season arc.

Damages - Orignally an FX series, Damages puts on non-linear storytelling and series-long mystery arcs in a compelling way. Certainly not a procedural, Damages requires you to pay attention to characters and events to put the puzzle together. While not in the sci fi genre its mysterious storytelling using the backdrop of legal maneuverings is a compelling watch. Superb acting and well written, another series that is worth going back and taking a look.

Other shows I could add to my list: John from Cincinnati, Deadwood, Daybreak, Firefly, et cetera.

Also there are new shows that have popped up during LOST's run, that might not have gotten our attention because of scheduling, or just the number of hours available to watch television. Or new shows that have just started, or are in the pipeline to hit the airwaves in the next couple of years. We're open to examine these shows on our site with the aid of LOST-tinted glasses in supporting good television for the sake of the art.

While I've discovered Dexter, Mad Men, Leverage, and Burn Notice during the past hiatuses of LOST, there are some really good shows that have come out since LOST's finale: Rubicon (AMC), The Walking Dead (AMC), Terriers (FX), and Sherlock on Masterpiece Mystery (PBS).

So we're asking you, as fans of LOST and fans of quality TV, "What shows are you watching?"  If you're lead to give us a list of shows, great!  If you'd like to blog regularly about a show (either past, current or future) let us know.  We'd love to start more conversations about Television and how it touches us emotionally, intellectually, or even just gives us a few minutes of entertainment each week.

Contact one of the LOSTblog bloggers if you're interested in helping out!

COOLEST LOST STUFF EVER!!! The Kharma Initiative’s EPIC Benefit Raffle

Wanna chance to win some frickin' AMAZING LOST stuff AND help a family in need? Well, my lovely LOST readers, you've only got 'til OCTOBER 25 to get it done!!

Check out The Kharma Initiative's EPIC Benefit Raffle.  Then make a donation for a chance of winning TONS of LOST goodies, including Amy's personal favorite:

"LOCKE'S SECRET"

Signed by LOST Executive Producer and co-creator DAMON LINDELOF who generously donated the work from his personal collection just for the Wayman Family fundraiser! THE flagship work of art by the sought-after UK designer Olly Moss from the Official Lost Underground Art Series.

[caption id="attachment_11912" align="alignright" width="300" caption="SIGNED and DONATED by Damon Lindelof!!"][/caption]

FROM Mib Write Now blog:

Want to help a Nashville family rebuild their flood damaged home? Want a shot at winning some rare pop art and collectibles? You can do both! Just Donate to The Kharma Initiative’s Wayman Flood Relief raffle before October 24, 2010.

The Waymans are exactly the type of people we all know and have in our lives. Jeff, a loyal friend to my family for 35 years, is the kind of guy who shows up on moving day with his truck just as you realize that you can't possibly fit everything in one trip. He would check in on my widowed mother when her own sons were away in the military.

His wife, Lee, is a pediatric nurse and her impact on our family began the first day she stepped into our lives. Lee has comforted more crying children than can be counted, and has dispensed more advice to frantic parents than a poison control hotline. Auntie Lee makes sure that my children have a hand to hold when they get shots and a treat to take home afterwards. Together they have two wonderful kids who they've taught to be kind, accepting and hardworking.

This working class family's home was hit hard this summer when devastating rains swept through Music City. The worst flooding that Nashville has seen in over a hundred years swept away buildings, homes and lives. Local businesses and families are still rebuilding, including the Waymans. My husband and I had planned to give away our collectibles collection; we just didn't know to whom or why.

The floods made it instantly clear. We had an opportunity to give something back to a family that would do the same for us, and you, without a second thought. It's also a chance to illustrate the power people can have when they come together in support of a common cause. The Kharma Initiative was joined by amazing people all over the globe to present this unique and exciting collection of prizes to help the Wayman family. I hope you'll join us by considering a donation. Your good deed could be rewarded, like Kharma!

Give it a GO, LOST fans! Raffle ends OCTOBER 25, 2010!!

[NOTE:  Double check the entry requirements. There are specific directions on what boxes to check or leave unchecked on the donation form in order for your donation to enter you in the raffle.]

Pictures From The Washington Post Lost Happy Hour

Tonight I made my way down to The Reef bar in Adam's Morgan, the heart of DC. The event, hosted by Jen and Liz of the Washington Post was a lot of fun, and a good time was had by all. There were Lost-themed drink specials, a costume contest, prize give aways, and huge tv screens playing the Pilot episode. I made sure to take a good amount of pictures to capture the evening. The highlight for me was watching my roommate, dressed as Sawyer, ask out an incredibly hot Washington Post videographer and get shot down. Don't worry Ryan.....plenty of Dharma fish in the sea.

Actually, the real highlight for me was at the end, once most of the people had left, I spent about 20 solid minutes talking with Jen from the Washington Post. She couldn't be nicer, and I am really looking forward to getting her involved with the LOSTblog rewatch. Ok...onto the pictures:

‘Live Together, Die Alone’ Memorial Bracelets a Children’s Defense Fund Fundraiser

What a great idea!  We’re all going to be devastated on May 24, and for many days thereafter we’ll be able to recognize each other by the dark circles under our red and puffy eyes.  But what if there was another way?  Maybe a less embarassing way?  How about if we all share our grief together by wearing "Live Together, Die Alone" Memorial Bracelets?  AND you’ll be donating to the Children’s Defense Fund!  Here’s the info on the idea from creator Samantha:

live together die alone bracelets

LIVE TOGETHER DIE ALONE MEMORIAL BRACELETS If we generate enough interest, we can really make a difference! We're hoping to donate $1 from each bracelet to the Children's Defense Fund, a charity traditionally supported by LOST fans because of the creators' interest in the cause.

Samantha’s plan is to get at least 108 people to “like” the Live Together, Die Alone Facebook page (though if you aren’t on Facebook she will count comments on this post as well) by the end of this week; if so she will place the order with the manufacturer and put up a website to take orders, with payment through PayPal.  They will “most likely be $5.23” (ooo, nice use of a Number) and will ship your order directly to you.  You will also see a link to more information on the Children’s Defense Fund on the Facebook page .   She says “After six years of devotion to LOST, I just want to pay it forward!”  Samantha also asked me to acknowledge her friend Anita who was on board with the idea immediately, and who is "currently right next to me making the website!"

I WANT ONE!  Actually, I want at least two.  I’ve “liked” the Facebook page , how about you?  Click on the Facebook page now!  Let’s get that count up so she can get those bracelets ordered! Also, follow Samantha on Twitter; her Twitter name is @BeingWatched .  Thanks Samantha for this great idea, and thanks Anita for your help!

Instant Dharma – The Last Recruit

This week, Brian Ford Sullivan (@thefutoncritic), also known as The Futon Critic, and Natalie Abrams (@NatalieAbrams) from TVGuide.com join me to talk about 'The Last Recruit,' a jam-packed episode with more explosions, a heartfelt (if not too short) reunion for two loves and a boat ride for Sawyer, Jack, Kate, Sun, Hurley, Claire and a pilot who "looks like he stepped off the set of a Burt Reynolds movie" (Lapidus!).
